This is the first TechSquid tutorial! Let me know how I’m doing in the comments!

Today I am going to show you how to reduce the amount of ‘crap’ in your computer. Most people don’t realize that files build up in secret areas of the computer during normal, every day usage. These files are not large individually, but they tend to build up over time and can dramatically affect the performance of a computer. Common symptoms of ‘the crap’ are slow load times, slow boot times, frequent hanging or freezing, and even crashing programs.

While the symptoms are bad, they can easily be cured by a simple and completely free piece of software known as CCleaner, which is short for Crap Cleaner. This fantastic program helps make maintenance of your computer’s ‘crap’ load by cleaning out all the sources of the junk files.

Installing and learning to use the program is extremely simple:

1. First, you need to download CCleaner. It can be found here.

2. Second, you need to install CCleaner. Take the file that you downloaded and double-click it. The setup should start automatically. Follow all the prompts until it says that the installation is complete.

3. The third and final step is to run CCleaner. Depending on how much debris there is in your hard drive, this may take some time–a few minutes at most–and just be patient while the process runs. When the cleaning is complete, you’ll receive a handy summary of just how much space CCleaner cleared for you.

Final note: It is important to run CCleaner on a regular basis. Once a week or daily is sufficient to keep ”crap’ from overtaking your computer system!
